Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact any of our psychologists via phone or email with general inquiries, and we can direct you to the appropriate professional.

Parents can struggle with the decision to start a psycho-educational, social-emotional and/or behavioural assessment for a child age 2-8. After all, maybe we don't need an assessment because:

  • It is just a phase.
  • Our child will grow out of his or her difficult behaviour.
  • Our child will grow out of problems with school.
  • The school does not understand our child.
  • Our child has bad friends.

But on the other hand...maybe, if the assessment is done:

  • We will know more about our child.
  • We can understand our child's learning challenges better.
  • We will know when to ask for more help.
  • We can be a better advocate for our child.
  • We can work more effectively with our child's teacher.

The psychologists at Fish Creek Psychology have extensive experience working with children and families of preschool children and students in the early grades.  A variety of assessment measures are used with children in this younger age category and the early identification of developmental needs will help to provide the necessary interventions and accommodations for your child in school.
